Field Marshal Sir Henry Hughes Wilson, 1st Baronet

one of the most senior British Army staff officers of the First World War. He was assassinated on his own doorstep by two IRA gunmen in 1922 whilst returning home from unveiling a war memorial at Liverpool Street station

Annotation

Part of the Great Eastern Railway World War I memorial. Prior to the restoration of the station the various memorials stood elsewhere. One can see that the arrangement has been rather cobbled together - the lift would not have been part of any original design. The frieze, Great Eastern Railway, comes from Harwich House.
