Description

Full-length standing figure of Christopher Columbus, dressed in long coat, with chain necklace. He holds a folded document in his proper right hand; his proper left hand points out to the side. Nautical elements (rope, anchor and chain) are at his feet. He stands atop a rectangular base decorated with incised sailing ship and flanked by two eagles on world globes, all part of a larger exedra setting.

This monument on stamps

Cover send on the occasion of the dedication of the Saint Paul statue, 12 October 1931. Greg adds the comment "What is weird though is why would a person spend the money for airmail when it was going to himself in the same city? This was the depression era and money was tight."

Carlo Brioschi (1879-1941), Italian-American sculptor, lived since 1909 in St. Paul, Minn., where he founded the Brioschi-Minuti Company, an architectural sculpture and ornamental plaster company. Succeeded by his son Amerigo Brioschi
Leo Lentelli (1879-1961), American sculptor
