Description

The chapel was built in 1882 to replace the old 17th century chapel. On the side facing the Deensestraat are the statues of the Four Evangelists (one is missing) and Saint Augustine above the entrance. More saint's statues are on the other side facing the garden.

St. Augustine / St. Augustinus (354 - 430), Bishop of Hippo Regius (present-day Annaba, Algeria), philosopher and theologian; his writings were very influential in the development of Western Christianity (Wikipedia).

The Four Evangelists
The four Evangelists are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Their versions of the life of Jesus - the Gospel - are included in the New Testament. In art, they are depicted with their symbols: Eagle (John), Lion (Mark), Bull (Luke) and Angel (Matthew) or just with these symbols in the so-called tetramorphe.
