Der etwa 1525 in Homberg geborene Hans
Staden unternahm in portugiesischen
Diensten zwischen 1548 und 1555 zwei
Reisen nach Südamerika, war zeitweise
Gefangener kanibalischer Indianer und
verfasste 1557 für Landgraf Philipp einen
Reisebericht, der noch heute einen
bedeutenden völkerkundlichen Wert besitzt.
