Description

Bronze equestrian statue, following the model of the classical statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The king is however depicted in contemporary clothing, but wears a laurel.

This statue of George I by John van Nost
the Elder was erected in Dublin in 1722
and bought for the Barber Institute in 1937

Annotation

The equestrian statue of George I was commissioned by the city of Dublin in 1717, and was erected in 1722 on the Essex Bridge in Dublin. It was sold to the Barber Institute of Fine Arts in 1937 and placed on the lawn in front of the Institute.
