Annotation

The statue of Þorfinnur Karlsefni Þórðarson (genealogy), created by Einar Jónsson, born in Reykjavik, Iceland, was unveiled on November 20, 1920 on the east bank of the Schuylkill not far from downtown Philadelphia.

The Viking ship Norseman will again tie up near the statue of the great Icelandic explorer Thorfinn Kalsefni on Boathouse Row at around noon on Leif Eriksson Day, Oct. 9. The muscular crew will be celebrating the 1,000th anniversary of Eriksson's voyage to North America. Later, everybody will exchange their horned helmets and tunics for a black-tie dinner dance at the Union League. The guest of honor? Modern-day explorer Thor Heyerdahl.
