Description

Flanking the main gate of the abbey are statues of the founders of the abbey and their wives. The Abbey was founded in 1076 by Markward of Eppenstein and the foundation was finished under Markward's son Heinrich III respectively in 1103 (installation of abbot Hartmann), 1109 (confirmation by pope Paschalis II) and 1114 (imperial confirmation by Heinrich IV.)

Sophie (d. 1154), daughter of Margrave Leopold II of Babenberg, married after 1103 with Duke Heinrich. She was his third wife, he was first married with Beatrix, daughter of Count Otto von Dießen, and 1096 Liutgard.	Heinrich III. Herzog von Kärnten (c. 1050-1122), son of Markward von Eppenstein, Graf von Eppenstein, Margrave of Carniola, Friuli, Istria and Verona, Duke of Carinthia, Vogt of Aquileia and Moosburg. (Wikipedia).
Markward IV. Graf von Eppenstein (1010/20 - 1076), Count in Viehbachgau, 1039 Count in Carinthia, 1070 Margrave of Istria-Carniola and (disputed:) Duke of Carinthia from 1073 to 1076. Founder of St. Lambrecht's Abbey (Wikipedia).	Liutbirg daughter of Count Liutold II of Plain married ca. 1045/50 count Markward IV.

Above the gate are two coats-of-arms, the left is of the St. Lambrecht's Abbey, and the right one is the family-coat of arms of abbot Eugen Count Inzagi (abbot 1737-1760)
