Flanking the main gate of the abbey are statues of the founders of the abbey and their wives. The Abbey was founded in 1076 by Markward of Eppenstein and the foundation was finished under Markward's son Heinrich III respectively in 1103 (installation of abbot Hartmann), 1109 (confirmation by pope Paschalis II) and 1114 (imperial confirmation by Heinrich IV.)

Above the gate are two coats-of-arms, the left is of the St. Lambrecht's Abbey, and the right one is the family-coat of arms of abbot Eugen Count Inzagi (abbot 1737-1760)
