Annotation
The statue stands in front of the ancestral home of the sculptor, at the place where he as a child saw Dean Lauwerys passing by on the way to St. Catherine Church, with its typical stance against the northwest wind in. Dean Jozef Lauwerys did much for Hoogstraten. It was under his influence that the St. Catherine church, which was destroyed by the departing German troops, was rebuilt afterthe original plans.
The statue was unveiled 19 May 1997.
