Description
Het eerste Ros Beiaard op begane grond in Dendermonde is een geschenk van het bestuur van de Vlaamse Toeristenbond bij het 35-jarig bestaan van de afdeling Dendermonde. De uitgeschreven wedstrijd werd gewonnen door Marc De Bruyn, die de wat ongewone uitvoering van het paard verdedigde als "een krachtige opgerichte sprong naar de vrijheid en het herwonnen leven".
Er zijn geen Vier Heemskinderen te zien maar wie goed kijkt, ziet onder het paard vier kleine mensfiguren die een allusie kunnen zijn op de vier Heemskinderen maar toch eerder het zinnebeeld zijn van de Dendermondenaars die zich, door de symbolische levenskracht en de dynamische moed van hun herrijzend Ros Beiaard, mede opgetild voelen in de sprong uit de beproevingen van het verleden naar de verwachtingen van de toekomst.
Zo schiep volgens een verslaggever de kunstenaar "niet alleen een monument van plastische schoonheid, maar tevens een in steen uitgedrukt symbool van optimisme en levenskracht, de goede stede Dendermonde waardig." (De Smet 2025).
The first Horse Bayard at ground level in Dendermonde is a gift from the board of the Flemish Tourist Association on the 35th anniversary of the Dendermonde section. The competition launched was won by Marc De Bruyn, who defended the somewhat unusual execution of the horse as "a powerful erected leap towards freedom and regained life".
The Four Sons of Aymon are not present, but if you look closely, you will see four small human figures under the horse, which could be an allusion to the Four Sons of Aymon but are rather the symbol of the people of Dendermonde who, through the symbolic vitality and dynamic courage of their resurrecting Horse Bayard, feel themselves partly lifted up in the leap from the trials of the past to the expectations of the future.
Thus, according to one reporter, the artist not only created "a monument of plastic beauty, but also a symbol of optimism and vitality expressed in stone, worthy of the good city of Dendermonde." (De Smet 2025).
