Beschrijving / Description

Standbeeld van een lopende jonge vrouw, die de talrijke burgers symboliseert die het oorlogsgeweld van de Tweede Wereldoorlog ontvluchtten. De titel 'lente' verwijst naar het seizoen waarin de oorlog uitbrak. Vrouwen waren oververtegenwoordigd in die vluchtelingenstroom: veel valide mannen werden gemobiliseerd en waren dus verplicht hun gezin te verlaten. In oorlogstijd namen vrouwen ook dikwijls 'mannenwerk' over.

Statue of a walking young woman, symbolising the numerous civilians who fled the war violence of World War II. The title ‘spring’ refers to the season when the war broke out. Women were overrepresented in that flood of refugees: many able-bodied men were mobilised and thus obliged to leave their families. In wartime, women also often took over ‘men's work’.

In order to foster art and to increase the city's beauty, as well as to commemorate the last victims of the war, this monument was erected and dedicated by the community of citizens of Ronse 1964.
