Kunstwerk van vijf spiraalvormen die op regelmatige afstand van elkaar geplaatst zijn (één spiraal is verdwenen en een tweede is kromgebogen). De spiralen zijn vervaardigd uit lariksplankjes die op een eikenhouten constructie staan. Het werk heeft verschillende betekenissen. Enerzijds staat maten voor 'de maat houden' en 'met mate'; anderzijds voor afmetingen, afstanden, verhoudingen, vrienden, drinkebroers en de wederzijdse relatie tussen de beelden en de bewoners uit de omgeving.
An artwork comprising five spirals arranged at regular intervals (one spiral is missing and a second is bent out of shape). The spirals are made from larch planks mounted on an oak frame. The work has various meanings. On the one hand, ‘maten’ stands for ‘keeping one’s composure’ and ‘in moderation’; on the other hand, it refers to dimensions, distances, proportions, friends, drinking companions and the reciprocal relationship between the sculptures and the local residents.

Art in the Street
Art in the Street is a cultural project in Zwijndrecht and Burcht in the province of East Flanders. Between 1991 and 2012, the municipality of Zwijndrecht, in collaboration with the Cultural Council, acquired around twenty works of art for the ‘Art in the Street’ project. The works are displayed in public spaces and are made from materials including polyester, bronze, wood, blue stone, brick and Corten steel.
In 2025, the municipality of Zwijndrecht merged with Beveren and Kruibeke.
