Bronze statue of Luther in a typical monk's habit with an open Bible in his hand.
Originally it was the center part of a large monument, which was destroyed in 1945.
In the center of the raised area stood the statue of Martin Luther on a high granite plinth. At Luther's feet there were accompanying figures in busy conversation, representing fellow reformers at the time: Philipp Melanchthon, Johannes Bugenhagen, Georg Spalatin, Caspar Cruciger, Johannes Reuchlin, and Justus Jonas. The plateau was surrounded by a broken stone wall and could only be reached via ten steps. The stringers of the stairs carried the sculptures of Ulrich von Hutten and Franz von Sickingen.
