Description

Fountain with a statue of a woman with a spoon on her skirt, and on the pedestal a sleeping young man. It illustrates the song Sabinchen war ein Frauenzimmer (Wikipedia; and listen to the song at Youtube) with a text based on an old legend. According to this legend, Sabinchen is a rude maid who got involved with a penniless shoemaker's boy from Treuenbrietzen. He, she or both then stole the spoons of authority, they were discovered and Sabinchen was chased out of the house. To put an end to the maid's abuse, the shoemaker cut Sabinchen's throat with a razor. He was arrested, confessed to the crime, and the murder ballded ends with: "Don't trust a shoemaker! The jug goes to the well until the handle breaks off."
