KAISER WILHELM I
Als junger Prinz besuchte Wilhelm I. (1797-1888) mit seinen Geschwistern und seinem Vater, König Friedrich Wilhelm III. von Preußen, das Seebad Heringsdorf 1820 zum ersten Mal. Die 1 m hohe Bronzebüste zeigt ein Altersportrait des ersten Hohenzollern Kaisers aus der Zeit nach 1871; sie wurde von H. Pohlmann in Berlin entworfen und sehr wahrscheinlich von Georg Howaldt in Braunschweig gegossen. 2002 entschloß sich die Bkb Ag in Helmstedt (als Besitzerin der Büste), das historische Monument wieder der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen und es auf Initiative des Braunschweiger Unternehmers Heinz-Egon Achterkerke dem Seebad Heringsdorf zu stiften. Der Bildhauer Achim Frederick Kiel hat die Materialien, Proportionen und Farben (schwarz-weiß-rot) seines Sockels auf die Büste und die Villa Staudt abgestimmt, wo ein Enkel Kaiser Wilhelms I. – Wilhelm II. – häufig zu Gast war. Entsprechend der 27-jährigen Regierungszeit Wilhelms I. (1861-1888) mißt der Sockel inklusive der Büste 270 cm.

EMPEROR WILLIAM I
As a young prince William I (1797-1888) visited with his siblings and his father, King Frederick William III of Prussia, Heringsdorf in 1820 for the first time. The 1 m high bronze bust shows an old age portrait of the first Hohenzollern emperor from the period after 1871; it was designed by H. Pohlmann in Berlin and probably cast by Georg Howaldt in Braunschweig. In 2002, the Bkb Ag in Helmstedt (as owner of the bust), decided to make the historical monument accessible to the public and at the initiative of the Brunswick entrepreneur Heinz-Egon Achterkerke to establish it in Heringsdorf. The sculptor Achim Frederick Kiel has the materials, proportions and colors (black-white-red) of its base adapted to the bust and to the Villa Staudt, where a grandson of Emperor William I - William II - often was a guest. According to the 27-year reign of William I (1861-1888) the base, including the bust measures 270 cm. |
