Statues - Hither & Thither

 

Beschreibung / Description

In the front of the church, built in 1772, are three large niches with polychrome statues.

Maria Immaculata / Saint Mary Immaculate Conception with a wreath of stars on her head and a lily branch in her hand, and standing on a crescent moon and a sphere, trappling a serpent.

Sankt Franziskus von Assisi / Saint Francis of Assisi, born Giovanni Francesco di Bernardone (1181/82 - 1226), an Italian friar and preacher. He founded among others the Franciscan Order. Saint Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in history (Wikipedia). Depicted as a monk with a book on which a skull lies, and an orb under his right foot

Sankt Antonius von Padua / Saint Anthony of Padua, born Fernando Martins de Bulhões, (Lisbon c. 1195 - Padua 1231), priest and friar of the Franciscan Order, known for his preaching and expert knowledge of scripture (Wikipedia). Depicted as a monk with a book on which a child sits.

In the building to the left is a polychrome relief with a calvary scene.
