Türmer Er wacht über die Stadt und die Bürgerinnen und Bürger von Braunschweig. Der Türmer - auch Turmwächter - genannt, hatte früher die Aufgabe, vom höchsten Turm aus die Stadt vor Gefahren zu warnen: vor her- annahenden Truppen oder Bränden in der Stadt. Zur Warnung nutzte der Türmer ein Horn, eine Glocke, Signalflaggen oder bei Dun- kelheit auch Lampen. Die ca. 4 m hohe Bronzeskulptur auf dem Turm erinnert an diese Tradition. Mit Blick auf das Rathaus und das Schloss wacht der Türmer seit 2014 wieder über die Stadt. Geschaffen wurde die Figur von dem in Braun- schweig geborenen Künstler Klaus Stümpel und finanziert durch einen Freundeskreis der Bürgerstiftung Braunschweig. |
Tower Watchman He watches over the city and the citizens of Braunschweig. The Türmer - also known as the tower watchman - used to have the task of warning the city of danger from the highest tower: of approaching troops or fires in the city. The tower keeper used a horn, a bell, signalling flags or, in the dark, lamps to give warning. The approx. 4 metre high bronze sculpture on the tower is a reminder of this tradition. With a view of the town hall and the castle, the tower watchman has been watching over the town again since 2014. The sculpture was created by the Braunschweig- born artist Klaus Stümpel and financed by a circle of friends of the Braunschweig Community Foundation. |
