Statues - Hither & Thither

 

Description

Skulptur eines pausbäckige Mädchen mit wirren Haaren, das erhobenen Kopfes einen kleinen Ball auf der rechten Handfläche trägt und mit der linken Hand festhält. Das Mädchen trägt ein knöchellanges langärmeliges Kleid und mehrere auffallende Halsketten.
Das Modell für diese Skulptur war Ehra, ein Sinti-Mädchen aus Düsseldorf. Obwohl sie die Konzentrationslager überlebte, wurde ein Abguss dieser Skulptur 1997 für das Denkmal für die ermordeten Sinti im Zweiten Weltkrieg verwendet, das am Alten Hafen in Düsseldorf steht.

The model for this sculpture was Ehra, a Sinti girl from Düsseldorf. Although she survived the concentration camps, a cast of this sculpture was used in 1997 for the monument to the murdered Sinti in World War II, which stands on the Alter Hafen in Düsseldorf.
