Description

All manhole covers in the centre of Bünde feature a relief of the Hengest and Horsa, two knights holding hands. In this way, they figure in the coat of arms of Bünde.
The arms are supposedly canting, the two knights holding hands, thus forming a pact ('Bund'). It is based on the fact that Hengest and Horsa on the spot of the present taown formed a pact to invade England.
