Description

Stone sculpture of a rooster on a tall column. On the sides of the column are plaques with an explanation and the names of the Rooster Kings from 1931 to 2042 (those names from 2024 to 2042 have yet to be filled in!).

Nach altem Brauch und Sitte
wird zu Kirmes in Hücheln
der Hahn geköppt
Der Ursprung rührt von einem
germanischen Brauch her
Aus Dankbarkeit für die
gute Ernte wurde ein
Hahn Geopfert und verzehrt.
Diesen Ritus vollziehen bis
heute noch die Hüchelner
Männer, und wem es gelingt
den Hahn zu küppen, der istl
Hahnen König

According to old custom and tradition,
at the fair in Hücheln
the rooster is beheaded
The origin stems from a
Germanic custom
Out of gratitude for the
good harvest, a
rooster was sacrificed and consumed.
This rite is still performed
today by the men of Hücheln,
and whoever succeeds
in decapitating the rooster is the
Rooster king
