Inscription(s)

„nur in hemd und hose, die ärmel aufgekrempelt,
steht der torfstecher in der morastigen kuhle.
in mühseliger, harter arbeit gewinnt er den torf
und packt ihn nach längerem trocknen zu hause
in den torfschuppen. die familie ist dadurch von
der sorge im den brennstoff für die lange
winterzeit befreit.ʺ

in der verganenheit war das moor eine lebens-
wichtige energiequelle. der torf war der vorläu-
fer der kohle und diente den familien als brenn-
material zum heizen und kochen.

"Wearing nothing but a shirt and trousers, his sleeves rolled up,
the peat-cutter stands in the muddy hollow.
Through laborious, hard work, he extracts the peat
and, after it has dried for some time at home,
stores it in the peat shed. This frees the family from
the worry of finding fuel for the long
winter months."

In the past, the moor was a vital
source of energy. Peat was the precursor
to coal and served families as fuel
for heating and cooking.
