Statues - Hither & Thither

 

Description

Eine Barockstatue der Schmerzensmutter mit einem lebhaft drapierten Umhang und einer ausdrucksstarken Geste des Leidens, wobei sie die Hände vor der Brust gefaltet hält. Ihr Kopf, der teilweise von einem Kopftuch verdeckt ist, ist zur Seite gewandt; das Schwert, das ihre Brust durchbohrt, ist aus Eisen gefertigt.
Die Statue wird einer Gruppe von Madonnen aus der Werkstatt Sasse in Coesfeld zugeschrieben.
Sie stand ursprünglich an der Linde an der Meskesweide/An der Welle und wurde auf dem alten Owweringer Friedhof wieder aufgestellt.

A Baroque statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, featuring a vividly draped cloak and an expressive gesture of suffering, with her hands clasped before her chest. Her head, partially concealed by a headscarf, is turned to one side; the sword piercing her chest is made of iron.
The statue is thought to belong to a group of Madonnas from the Sasse workshop in Coesfeld.
It was originally located at the lime tree on Meskesweide/An der Welle and has been re-erected at the old Owwering cemetery.
