1590 (copy 1927) |

Polychrome stone statue of a kneeling miner or mining official on a pedestal with leather as the miners' profession-specific garment and a shouldered wedge hoe, holding the Mansfeld-Hinterort coat of arms in his left hand. It is the symbolic figure of the miners' settlement "Neustadt Eisleben".
The sculpture was erected in 1590 after the construction of the Neustadt town hall was completed. The donor is Countess Margarete von Mansfeld-Hinterort, who also had the Neustadt town hall built. The original figure stood on the Breite Weg until 1927. It was made of sandstone that had weathered badly. The sculptor Chr. Schmid from Halle created his new comrade Martin from more resistant shell limestone. The figure was restored again in 1995. Its predecessor found its way into the regional museum behind the Renaissance house at Andreaskirchplatz 11 in Lutherstadt Eisleben
