Statues - Hither & Thither

 

Beschreibung / Description

The church was built in 1898 after designs of the architect Richard Tschammer.
Three statues adorn the main portal, Christ is in the gable and the St. John and St. Arnulf are flanking the entrance.

Johannes der Täufer / St. John the Baptist (c. 6 BC- c. 36 AD), itinerant preacher and a major religious figure who led a movement of baptism at the Jordan River. He baptized Jesus at "Bethany beyond the Jordan." (Wikipedia).

Christus / Christ

St. Arnulf von Metz / St. Arnulf of Metz (c. 582-640), bishop of Metz, 613-628 (Wikipedia) with cross and model of the St. John's chapel

At the south facade were two statues, which are now standing in a little garden north of the church.

St. Petrus / St. Peter (possibly died AD 67), apostle, first pope; patron saint of locksmiths and confessors. Usually holding the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven in his hand (Wikipedia)

St. Johannes der Evangelist / St. John the Evangelist conventional name for the author of the Gospel of John - considered to be the same person as John the Apostle (Wikipedia).
