She is depicted with a wolf because of the following legend:
Each day an unaccompanied donkey used to walk from the monastery at Jumièges carrying the laundry of the monks to the Convent of Pavilly, where the sisters tended the washing of the linen. One day the donkey did not arrive. St. Austreberthe, a sister at the convent, went out to search for the missing animal. She failed in her search, finding only some bloodstained linen. Eventually a wolf emerged from the nearby forest, knelt at her feet, confessed he had killed and eaten the donkey and asked forgiveness. St. Austreberthe forgave the repentant wolf but said he must offer retribution by taking the place of the donkey and carrying the laundry himself. The wolf agreed to do this and performed his task faithfully and well for the remainder of his life.(from Ivy Stanmore, Wolves and Early Saints).
The exact number of sculptures is difficult to find out. The book Images de Barentin of 2006 lists 312 sculptures, 110 of which are in public space (at present, there are at least 328 sculptures). The 110 sculptures 'on the street' include a few buildings and architectural features, among them the famous train viaduct. Included on our website are 93 of these 110. But, we included six sculptures not in public space (on school yards), listed in the book as not in public space, and two sculptures which are not in the book. That means that there are 101 sculptures in Barentin on our website.

Each sculpture has a blue tile with the name, the sculptor and the reference number. Between 2001 and 2014 all sculptures have been restored, reports about the restaurations are in the Ensemble Barentin, Bulletin municipal officiel (on-line).
