Description
Statue of a kneeling Jean d'Arc in armour. A copy of the statue erected in the early sixteenth century on the Pont des Tourelles in Orleans. Replica cast of the statue before restoration.
Annotation
The original statue comes from a chapel built in the late 16th century by Etienne Hordal at the location of the current basilica of Bois-Chenu in Domremy. It was inspired by a statue located at the Cathedral of Toul, itself inspired by a monument placed on a bridge in Orleans. During the Revolution, the statue narrowly escaped destruction by action of Francois-Joseph Henry, a notable person from Coussey. The statue had lost his its hand, right arm and both legs during the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) or during the Revolution. A copy of the statue was placed in 1839 above the entrance door of the house where Joan of Arc.
Replicas of the restored statue in different sizes are offered for sale by the Union Artistique de Vaucouleurs, model no. 88, 'Jeanne d'Arc, fac-simile de la statue conservée dans la maison de Jeanne. Cette belle statue représente Jeanne d'Arc en armes, priant avant la bataille, c'est la plus ancien statue de la Pucelle' (Joan of Arc, a facsimile of the statue kept in the house of Jeanne. This beautiful statue of Joan of Arc in arms, praying before the battle, is the oldest statue of the Maid).

- 1412 - Approx date of birth
- 1425 - Visions of Saint Michael, Saint Catherine, and Saint Margaret, who told her to drive out the English and bring the Dauphin to Rheims for his coronation
- 1428, May - Went to Vaucouleurs to ask garrison commander, Count Robert de Baudricourt, to send her to the royal French court at Chinon, but is sent away.
- 1429, February - Baudricourt allows Jeanne to join the Dauphin at Chinon.
- 1429, May 8 - Lifting of the siege of Orleans
- 1429, July 17 - Coronation of Charles VII in Reims
- 1430, May 23 - Captured at Compiègne
- 1431, May 30 - Executed at Rouen
- 1871 - After the defeat of 1871, in many French towns and villages statues of Jeanne d'Arc are erected.
