Description

Corten steel sculpture, described on the website Newbury Town Trail as the 2005 project 'Communication' (link through Internet Archive):

Couple in conversation is a permanent sculpture planned to be installed on St John's roundabout (pending planning permission). It shows a man and a woman, standing, placing their hand on each other's shoulder in a gesture of tenderness and friendship, a physical gesture of communication. The man and woman are of equal height so that none overpowers the other and their faces turn towards each other. The two figures are in harmony. Tangible and intangible, light and dark, transparent and opaque, male and female in communication form a unity. Lighting at night will reverse the light/dark effect of the sculpture as the solid male figure reflects the light. The sculpture will be between 4-5m tall. It will be made out of 40mm thick steel with a total weight of between 4-6 tons.
