Description

Octagonal column of 25 m (82 ft.) high, crowned by a winged Victory standing on a globe. On the seaward side a bronze portrayal of Humanity (or Mankind) in the form of a naked female emerges from the foliage of war.

On the column plaques in Welsh and English:

The sea side front of the base has plaques with texts.

At the feet of Humanity the seal of Aberystwyth Borough (a lion) and the text:

1914
EIN
TEYRNGED

OUR
TRIBUTE

Below that plaques with the Welsh dragon (upper row)and text:

1939-1945
the names on the lower panels
perpetuate the memory of those
men and women of this borough
who sacrificed their lives for freedom
in the second world war.
"a'u gogoniant ni ddileir"

The Welsh quotation means "their glory shall not be blotted out" (Ecclesiasticus 44:13)

On the other seven sides plaques with the names of the fallen in the First World War (upper row) and Second World War (lower row).

Unveiled 14 September 1923 by Lieutenant Colonel John Charles Rea.
