Description

Octagonal column on plinth with a gabled arcading at the top below a short spire. In the front central panels of arcading is a relief statue of Richard Plantagenet, copied after his figure on the Welsh bridge in Salisbury. On either side of him roses and a band with the texts 'pur bon mort' and 'bon espoir' respectively. The two side panels show coats of arms.
The monument was unveiled by the bishop of Wakefield on 9 December 1897. The design of the monument is by the architect Mr. Horsley of London and it was executed by W.T. Thresh, monumental mason of Wakefield.
