Description

St Patrick's Catholic Church in Rathvily is a gothic revival style Catholic church designed by the architect W. Hague and built 1886. On the facades and on the grounds are three saint's statues:

3. St. Joseph

1. St. Patrick

In a niche above above the entrance. The statue was a gift of the workmen on the Tullow and Baltinglass extension line of railway, which runs by the village of Rathvilly, and was unveiled 9 April 1886.
St. Patrick (Modern Irish: Pádraig) 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Known as the 'Apostle of Ireland', he is the primary patron saint of the island.

3. St. Joseph

Polychrome stone statue of St. Joseph with lilies, in the garden to the south of the church; with on the socle the prayer:

Patrone ora pro nobis
St. Joseph the husband of the Virgin Mary and the earthly father of Jesus Christ (in distinction to God, his "heavenly father") (Wikipedia).
