Saints' statues at the Black Abbey

Description

On the facades and on the grounds of the Dominican Black Abbey in Kilkenny are several saint's statues:

1. Saint Mary Immaculate Conception

In the garden east of the church, under a wrought iron baldachin.

2. St. Dominic

Stone statue in a niche in the facade of the monastery. St. Dominic (Spanish: Domingo), often called Dominic de Guzmán (1170 - 1221), founder of the Friars Preachers, popularly called the Dominicans or Order of Preachers (OP) (Wikipedia).

3. St. Dominic

Statue in the garden across the street to Friars Bridge.

4. Sacred Heart Statue

Near the east entrance of the church; signed raffl. paris.

Sculptor

Raffl - La Statue Réligieuse, manufacturer of religious statues and church furniture, rue Bonaparte 64, Paris, founded 1796, and named after Ignaz Raffl (1828-1895). The company is primarily known as Maison Raffl or La Statue Religieuse. The iron statues of this firm were founded by Val d'Osne or Tusey.
