Description

Around Saint Patrick's Church is a granite statue of St. Patrick and two other statues.

  1. St. Patrick (Modern Irish: Pádraig) 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Known as the 'Apostle of Ireland', he is the primary patron saint of the island.

    was unveiled and blessed by
    The Very Reverend
    Jackie Conroy P.P.
    on the
    15th August 2006.
    ~
    It is the final phase of
    Aghagower's Millennium
    Celebrations.
    It was from here that
    St. Patrick and some members
    of his household accompanied
    by St. Benan of Kilbannon
    departed on Shrove Saturday
    in the year 441 to spend
    40 days of Lent on
    Cruaghan Aigle
    (now Croagh Patrick)
    from whence they returned
    on Holy Saturday to
    celebrate Easter with
    Bishop Sinach in Aghagower.

  2. Calvary group, polychrome group with Crucifix, Saint Mary, Saint John the Apostle and Saint Mary Magdalena.
    Calvary or Golgotha was the site, outside of ancient Jerusalem's early first century walls, at which the crucifixion of Jesus occurred. In religius sculpture, a calvary is a type of monumental public crucifix with two or more adjoining statues (Wikipedia).

  3. Lourdes Grotto with polychrome statues of St. Mary and St. Bernadette Soubirous, placed in the Marian Year 1954.
