Jan Joosten van Lodensteyn monument, a work by LPJ 'Bulat', Dutch. In 1600, Dutchman Jan Joosten drifted ashore to Japan after his ship was wrecked in the Bungo Sea. He lived in Japan under the favor of the Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa and worked as the consultant of diplomacy and trade.
His house was located in the moat / vicinity of Wadakuramon Gate.
Therefore, the area was named Yaesu Riverside afterwards, and later became Yaesu. We placed this statue in remembrance of him.
