Above this plaque, a small circular plaque with the text:

BICENTENNIAL WORLD MARINE FESTIVAL
1776-1976.

The Seattle statue was placed in 1962 in conjunction with the Seattle World's Fair Celebration.

The Leif Eriksson International Foundation (L.E.I.F.) has erected copies of this statue in Trondheim (1997), Qassiarsuk (2000), and Cleveland (2001).
