Description

Bust of Columbus with a relief on the pedestal.
In January 1492 Columbus was still negotiating the conditions to realize his project. When the kings denied his high demands, he left Santa Fe in direction to Córdoba planning to present his ideas to the French king. Bartolomé de las Casas or Hernando Colón wrote that he was called back by Isabel I, just when had reached Pinos Puente. Today people say that he was in the middle of the bridge of Pinos Puente when he was called. This is shown on the relief: left hand the queen’s messenger; right hand Columbus.
