Bronze statue of Major Winters with his weapon at the ready.

Inscription(s)

On the edge of the base is the text: 82nd airborne 5th ranger batalion vii corps - 1st infantry division 4th infantry division 29th infantry division - 90th infantry division v corps and ranger bataillon

On the pedestal are three stone plaques with texts:

In front of the pedestal is a plaque with a portrait of Major Winters and text:

Major Richard D. Winters
1918-2011

Dedicated on June 6, 2012, by the World
War II Foundation, along with our French
allies from the Utah Beach Museum and
with the support of the grateful citizens
of the village of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont.

In honor of Dick Winters and all those
American junior officers who led the way
on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

May we never forget
their leadership under fire.

Annotation

Unveiled at the 68th anniversary of D-Day. The statue is located at the place where Winters and his small band of men dropped out of the sky soon after midnight on June 6, 1944, on a death-defying mission to destroy four German 105mm artillery guns that threatened the Allied invasion force. The actions of Major Winters inspired the book and award-winning television series 'Band of Brothers'. Winters only agreed for the statue to bear his resemblance on the condition that the monument would be dedicated to all junior officers who served and died during the Normandy landings.

A second cast of the statue is in 2015 placed in Ephrata, Pennsylvania.
