Description

Large stone statue of Themis.

Annotation

The statue was made by around 1810 by Jean-Antoine Houdon together with that of Minerva (click here), to adorn the steps of the Palais Bourbon in Paris. Attacked by pollution, both statues were replaced by a copy in 1988 and the originals were offered, at the initiative of Olivier Stirn to the Urban Community of Cherbourg in 1989. The statues were restored by Pierre Bataille and placed on two roundabouts in Cherbourg-Octeville.
