The front façade of the cathedral was built between 1901 and 1904 after designs of Dante Viviani. The sculptural work was executed by Giuseppe Cassioli, Enrico Quattrini and Viviani himself. The façade had three doors with reliefs in the tympana, while above the main door are five statues of saints.

The four Evangelists are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Their versions of the life of Jesus - the Gospel - are included in the New Testament. In art, they are depicted with their symbols: Eagle (John), Lion (Mark), Bull (Luke) and Angel (Matthew) or just with these symbols in the so-called tetramorphe. |
