In the fifteenth century, the first settlers arrived here, at this local coast.

Gate of black basalt and white marmer with on the town side six marble portrait reliefs of the prominent figures of the time.

Annotation

Inaugurated 3 July 2005 at the occassion of the 166th anniversary of the elevation of Povoação to municipality. It is the place where landed the first settlers of Sao Miguel Island. It consists of small images, embossed, of the prominent figures of the time.
